Surrounded by some one hundred and twenty two hats for the Seafarers’ Centre at Felixstowe, knitted by local supporters, happy to ply their fingers to good purpose, sits Sue Kistruck, a Diocesan Member from Long Melford. She collects them from many sources, not only MU Members but those who go to local churches in the Sudbury area, or come into St Peter’s (redundant) church in Sudbury on a Thursday for Kettle & Fish, run by members of Churches Together in Sudbury & District.
Since 2005, she has collected near on six and a half thousand. That’s a lot of heads that have been kept warm when the Sailors come into our windy East Anglian ports from much warmer places to the East! She even had a parcel one year from Australia, a visiting relation having picked up the pattern from Sue's Knitting Table in St Peter’s. Sue also regularly had parcels from a TownsWomen’s Guild in Rickmansworth, until old age defeated the fingers. As you can see, stripes are very popular, to customise the hats and use up all your ends of wool. If you want a pattern, email Sue or phone her on 01787 311165.
