We have a special way to celebrate Mary Sumner Day this year - all members in Suffolk are invited to join in a Zoom virtual tea and cake and service!
Linda says:
Dear All,
I have organised a “Pop-Up” Zoom celebration (details below) and would like to invite you to come and join us – details below.
This will be a very much informal, spontaneous learning session to enable us to meet up with one another, to celebrate the life of Mary Sumner, and to hold our membership across the diocese together in these difficult times.
For many, zooming is new. This is a non-threatening opportunity to meet up with one another. We will be organised into chat rooms. (I’ve not done this before either....) - Do ‘bring along’ your children, grandchildren, great-grandchild and anyone else in your household - “we’ll do it together....”
I have written to the Bishops and senior staff to ask if they can join us and/or send a video/youtube clip, and to Ian our chaplain and his curate – I have delayed sending out this invitation in the hope of hearing back from them, but apparently everyone is away on holiday, it being August.
So, we will open the ‘doors’ at 2.45 pm on Saturday when you can click to join in – bring with you your cup of tea and a piece of cake/biscuit - it’s a celebration!
We will then be divided into small groups (we don’t need to do anything!) and just chat and catch-up, perhaps talking about how you have found covid, what impact it has had on you.
It will be a time fellowship, food, fund and friendship - and hopefully engender a sense of all being together as we celebrate the life and work of Mary Sumner – a grandma! -, and give thanks for her vision of 142 years ago.
We will then conclude with prayers of thanksgiving and extracts from the service resources on the Mothers’ Union website, and finish at 4.00 pm with the Blessing (if we can find someone to do this for us!)
If you would like to join the Zoom meeting please contact Beryl Mee (01473 413534) for the joining details.
If this isn't for you, then take a look at the Mothers' Union resource pack with ideas for services, prayers and activities. There will also be two services broadcast live from the central Mothers' Union facebook page - details of these are also in the resource pack.
