Suzette Jones, the new development officer for The Clewer Initiative, reports:
Modern slavery is a harmful and hidden crime and its victims may be especially isolated and hidden from view during the COVID 19 outbreak. As restrictions are gradually lift, we would like your help with our aims for the coming months.
These are.
- Prayer for all who are trapped in modern slavery, trafficking and for people working in this difficult area.
- To continue to raise awareness especially for anyone working in foodbanks, night shelters, community centres with the vulnerable, to be able to spot the signs and report their concerns. The Clewer have online training, resources and information all available to download free.
- Hope that with our churches and community centres gradually opening their doors that a poster, highlighting modern slavery and where help is to be found can be displayed in every church and church hall throughout the country.
The Clewer web page, https://www.theclewerinitiative.org, is just about to receive a makeover and by July we will have some new and vibrant resources, training, video clips all free to download. A new poster will be available shortly which uses less ink, can be easily printed and has important information where to report, find help etc.
A wonderful series of podcasts has been produced by Debbie Huxton working in partnership with Mothers Union Litchfield & Transforming Communities Together, and is available at https://tctogether.org.uk/areas-of-work/podcasts , well worth listening to.
